BROOKINGS – The Boys & Girls Clubs serving Brookings, Moody County and Yankton were presented with a brand new 2018 Toyota Sienna vehicle as a culmination to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s national campaign Back2School Stuff the Bus Tour – powered by Toyota.

Out of more than 4,400 clubs in the nation, The Boys & Girls Clubs serving Brookings, Moody County and Yankton were among the clubs that were selected for making a difference in the community through programming.

The two other clubs that won are the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago and the Boys & Girls Club of Delaware. The minivan was donated by Toyota, which is a national partner of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

The club will also receive $25,000 in cash along with donations from other corporate partners – a package totaling more than $75,000. Supplies include:

• Drawstring backpacks donated by Build-A-Bear Workshop

• Video game consoles donated by Chuck E. Cheese’s

• Kids’ scissors donated by Fiskars

“The club was selected for this award for the work we have done with teens, specifically in the areas of Teen Court, workforce development and LBGTQ initiatives,” said Vanessa Merhib, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Brookings. “We plan to utilize a portion of the $25,000 prize to challenge our community for continued investments in our Day of Giving on Nov. 27. The remaining funds will be used to financially support future innovative teen programs in our clubs.”

On a daily basis, the Boys & Girls Club of Brookings has nearly 400 youth from first to 12th grade participate in critical learning opportunities, like STEM, arts, homework help, volunteerism and more. These prizes will help in increasing program participation and offering local children and teens after-school activities.

The mission of The Boys & Girls Club is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need it most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.

The before- and after-school programs, summer programs and other camps provide fun, educational activities and opportunities for all youth at an affordable cost. To get involved with the club in any way, visit www.greatfuturessd.org or call 692-3333.
