BROOKINGS – A Brookings woman was cited after an accident where she was allegedly distracted by her phone, according to Brookings Police.

The accident was reported at 7:32 a.m. Friday and occurred in the 2100 block of Elmwood Drive, Lt. Marci Gebers said.

Bailey Reidel, 19, of Brookings, was driving a 2009 Buick Lucerne CX east on Elmwood Drive and struck the back end of a parked vehicle, Gebers said.

“She was distracted by her phone at the time of the crash,” Gebers said.

“She did complain of some left leg pain, and she was later transported to the Brookings ER by family member,” Gebers said.

The Lucerne sustained disabling front-end damage estimated to be around $5,000.

The car that was hit was a 1995 Buick Electra 225 and it was legally parked. It had rear-end damage estimated around $2,000.

“She was issued a citation for use of hand-held electronic device,” Gebers said.
