BROOKINGS – A Brookings man, who had allegedly been drinking, was injured after crashing his motorcycle, but the child riding with him was unhurt, according to Brookings Police.

The accident was reported shortly before 9:30 p.m. Saturday and occurred in the driveway of a mobile home park in the 500 block of Eighth Street South, Assistant Chief Derrick Powers said.

Michael Quezada, 31, of Brookings, was riding a 1983 Honda VT500c motorcycle through the mobile home park, Powers said.

“He had a 6-year-old female passenger on the motorcycle,” Powers said. He had no information on how fast the cycle was going or whether either Quezada or the child was wearing a helmet.

“He lost control and crashed, and he was injured but the child was not,” Powers said.

An ambulance was called to the scene, and Quezada was transported to the Brookings hospital.

“It appears to be a non-life-threatening injury,” Powers said, but he did not know whether Quezada had been released or not.

“It was found that he had been drinking,” Powers said.

Quezada was arrested on suspicion of DUI and reckless driving, he added.
