BROOKINGS – A Brookings man was arrested after he displayed a firearm at a local business while he was intoxicated, according to Brookings Police.
The incident was reported at 1:30 a.m. Thursday and occurred in the 300 block of Main Avenue, Assistant Chief Derrick Powers said.
“We received a call from someone from the establishment advising that there was a male there who was playing with a gun inside of the establishment,” he said.
Officers talked to the man, 21, and “found that he did have a gun on him, which was loaded,” Powers said. “We did find he did have a concealed carry permit. We found that the individual was intoxicated.
“He had indicated he was just showing his friends the pistol while they were at the bar,” Powers said.
“Certainly I could see where that could cause alarm. So I don’t think it was a very good choice of his,” Powers said. “To display that in a public place, that could cause alarm, which it did because someone called us.”
The man was arrested on charges of possession of a loaded firearm while intoxicated and taken to the Brookings County Detention Center.
