BROOKINGS – Two men were arrested after they allegedly held two other men at gunpoint last week, according to the Brookings Police.

Court documents identify the suspects as 31-year-old Bradley Hammer, Jr., of Brookings and 18-year-old Dominic Norgaard of Hetland.

Both men are being held on $25,000 cash-only bond at the Brookings County Detention Center.

The incident happened about 1:30 a.m. Thursday and was reported Thursday afternoon, and it involved a planned drug purchase, court documents say.

Two Brookings men went to a residence in the 300 block of Medary Avenue South early Thursday morning to see someone they knew, BPD Assistant Chief Derrick Powers said.

“When they went inside the residence, there were two individuals inside that displayed handguns and held them at gunpoint, during which time one of the individuals was assaulted,” Powers said.

The two men were held for about a half-hour, and then they were allowed to leave, court documents say. One victim was reportedly punched and kicked in the face.

“This investigation led to a search warrant, which was conducted on July 6 at the residence,” Powers said. “A firearm was recovered at the residence, which was believed to be used in the assault.

“One of the individuals who was involved in the assault was located at the residence,” Powers said.

Hammer was arrested there and is facing seven felony charges: two counts of first-degree kidnapping and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and one count each of committing a felony while carrying a firearm, keeping a place for use or sale of a controlled substance, and possession of a firearm with a prior felony drug conviction. He’s also facing a misdemeanor simple assault charge.

“One of our officers located the second individual in a vehicle in the downtown area, which led to a traffic stop of this vehicle in the 300 block of Fifth Street,” Powers said. “A handgun was also located in that vehicle that was stopped.”

Norgaard was arrested there and is facing six felony charges: two counts of first-degree kidnapping and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and one count each of committing a felony while carrying a firearm and possession of a controlled substance. He’s also facing a misdemeanor charge of possession of 2 ounces or less of marijuana.

Powers said the case remains under investigation.
