BROOKINGS – A Brookings man was arrested after allegedly assaulting a woman and holding her against her will, according to Brookings Police.
John Sanders, 41, of Brookings, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault domestic and second-degree kidnapping and was transported to the Brookings County Detention Center, Lt. Marci Gebers said. The victim was a 41-year-old Brookings resident.
The incident was reported at 9:19 p.m. Thursday, Gebers said.
“Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Seventh Avenue South for a report of a domestic assault that had occurred at a different location. That residence would have been located in the 700 block of Brooklawn Drive,” Gebers said.
“Through the course of the investigation, officers learned that the male suspect had struck the female victim several times and strangled her. He held her against her will in the residence, but she was able to eventually escape out of a window,” Gebers said.
“She did have some injuries. She refused medical treatment,” Gebers said.
Sanders remained the Brookings County Detention Center Friday morning on $2,500 cash-only bond.
