RAPID CITY – Both Brandon Valley and Sioux Falls Washington defended their state titles as the Lynx edge Sioux Falls O’Gorman by 1/2 point to win the cheer competition and the Warriors averaged 289.17 points to win the dance competition.

CHEER

The Lynx lost just one point in deductions to finish with 253.5 points while O’Gorman scored 250 points for second place, followed by Harrisburg (237.5), Washington (233.5) and Roosevelt (233).

Brookings placed sixth with 220 points as the Bobcats performed their routine without any deductions.

“We performed a new stunt that we’ve been working on the past few weeks, which three of our five stunt groups were able to execute during the routine,” said Bobcat head coach Amy Hemmer. “We knew we’d be taking a risk adding in this higher difficulty stunt, but we wanted to give it our best shot and leave everything we had on the mat. We have no regrets in taking that chance.

“I am incredibly proud of how this team performed (today) at state, as well as how they performed all season. We performed consistently all year and worked hard to increase difficulty throughout the season; we didn’t go backwards at any point.”

DANCE

The Warriors posted the top scores in Hip Hop (286.5), Jazz (290.5) and Pom (290.5) as Brandon Valley won the Kick division with 269 points as the Lynx finished second as a team with a 283 average.

Brookings placed 12th with an average score of 210.5.

The Bobcats were ninth in Hip Hop (209.5); ninth in Kick (208); and 11th in Pom (214).
