BROOKINGS – A residence was burglarized early Wednesday morning, even though the place was locked, according to Brookings Police.
The break-in was reported shortly after 3:30 a.m. Wednesday and occurred at a residence in the 1000 block of Third Avenue, Assistant Chief Derrick Powers said.
“No forced entry was utilized, and the residence had been locked,” he said.
“The resident was awoken by a noise in the residence. Upon investigation, (they) found that someone was inside the residence. At which point, the individual fled,” Powers said.
“Some items were rummaged through in the residence, but at the time of the report, it hadn’t been determined if anything had been taken,” he said.
The investigation is ongoing, he added.
“It was someone who had access to the residence, being that it was locked,” Powers said.
