Brian Graslie, 49, of Brookings, formerly of White, died peacefully in his home on Wednesday, June 13, 2018.

Memorial services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church in White. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings.

Brian Arthur Graslie was born on Oct. 5, 1968, to Arthur and Helen Graslie in Brookings.  He was the youngest of five children.  He graduated from Deubrook High School in 1986.

He tried his hand in auto mechanics before settling in on electrician as his specialty.  He worked in several positions though his 20 years in the field, but most enjoyed his time at Dakota State University, South Dakota State University and his most recent position, Mills Property Management.  He enjoyed his time in the Jaycees as well as bowling and volleyball leagues.  He also loved music and was the bass player for the White Creek Band for many years, and lovingly called his band mates “brothers from another mother.”

In 2007, he met the love of his life, Kris, who he married on July 5, 2009.  Brian and Kris spent their married years doing many of the things they both enjoyed, including fishing, camping, golfing, singing, dancing and gardening.  Brian often reflected that Kris turned him into his father, Art, as gardening was a passion of his father’s that he had no interest in until meeting her.  He could be found every evening taking care of the haven the two had built together in their backyard.  He was a loving and caring husband and step-father and his most treasured time was with his family.  Brian always carried two things with him, his infectious smile and his faith.  He always made sure everyone he loved knew how much he cared and advised often “don’t forget to show love.”

Brian is survived by his wife, Kris Graslie of Brookings; step-daughter Kelly Watson of Sioux Falls and her fiancé Aaron Hietpas; step-son, Adam Watson, of Brookings; sisters, Nancy Thompson of Brookings, Janice Collett of White and Joan (Shannon) Crooks of Astoria; brother-in-law, Randy (Sheryl) Brown; 12 nieces and nephews, and many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, Arthur and Helen Graslie and his sister Sheryl (Randy) Brown.
