Brodie Hullinger, Michael Keeton win SDGA Mid-Amateur Two-Man Championship

ABERDEEN – Brookings’ Brodie Hullinger and Pierre’s Michael Keeton teamed to win the SDGA Mid-Amateur Two-Man over the weekend.

The duo shot 8-under-par 64 in best ball on Saturday at Moccasin Creek and then carded a modified Chapman score of 2-under 70 on Sunday at Lee Park for a 10-under 134 total and a two-stroke victory.

They bogeyed their first hole Saturday, before Hullinger dropped in birdies at the second and sixth holes. Both golfers made a birdie on No. 9 for a 34 on the front nine.

Keeton came out blazing on the back, birdying the 10th, making an eagle 2 at the 11th, and then adding birds at the 12th and 13th. Hullinger made a couple key pars at Nos. 15 and 16, before Keeton birdied the 18th for a 30 on the incoming nine.

Mitchell’s Brandon Sigmund and Jeff Meyerink were second at 136 (66-70). They entered the day two shots off the lead but quickly fell behind by five following a pair of early bogeys.

Hullinger and Keeton birdied Nos. 3 and 4 but bogeyed the seventh and eighth. They rebounded with a pair of birdies on the back – No. 14 and 16 – en route to a 34.

Brookings’ Scott Holm and Matt Krogman (69-69), Aberdeen’s Austin Hieb and Brian Jorgensen (67-71), and Hartford’s Brian Prisbe and Galen Vavra (67-71) tied for third with 138 totals.

The Holm/Krogman duo dropped in six birdies on Sunday.

Keeton now has five SDGA titles.

He won the 2017 Mixed Team with Hallie Getz, the 2016 Mid-Amateur and Match Play, and the 2015 Two-Man with Tad Leistico.

It marked the first career SDGA victory for Hullinger.

Rapid City’s Mike Brummer and Sioux Falls’ Tommy Reynolds won the Senior Two-Man Championship by six shots with an 8-under 136 (67-69) total.

Aberdeen’s Jeff Stockert and Mark Jorgensen were second at 142 (68-74).

Brummer now has 18 SDGA titles – second most all-time – while Reynolds has one.
