Brookings’ Abraham takes fourth ESD title in a row

BROOKINGS – Bobcat Ellie Abraham won her fourth consecutive title during the Eastern South Dakota Conference Cross Country Meet on Monday afternoon at Edgebrook.

The senior clocked a time of 18 minutes, 36.8 seconds.

She placed third in the event as a seventh-grader and fourth as an eighth-grader.

Abraham was the Class AA state champion in 2015 and 2017, was runner-up in 2018, took third in 2016 and finished fourth in 2014.

Brandon Valley claimed the team title with 46 points.

Harrisburg (70) edged Brookings (72) for second, with Aberdeen Central (75) taking fourth.

Lynx eighth-grader Mia Wentzy placed second individually with an 18:53.8 clocking.

The Tigers’ Presli White (19:27.8) and the Golden Eagles’ Melanie Jacobs (19:27.8) were third and fourth, respectively.

Brookings senior Ainsley Powers crossed in 19:50.8 to place fifth.

Jaixai Reineke (20:35.9) finished 12th, Kayla Shoup (21:12.8) 20th and Katie Osbeck (21:47) 35th to complete the team tally.

Aaron Ryan led five Golden Eagles in the top 11 as Aberdeen Central rolled to the team title with 26 points.

Brandon Valley (54), Harrisburg (70), Yankton (100) and Pierre (155) rounded out the top five.

Brookings ended up sixth at 163.

Ryan completed the 5K course in 16:16.9.

The Lynx’s Daniel Street placed second with a 16:23.4 clocking.

The Golden Eagles’ Daniel Street (16:53.1) and Jared Loecker (17:01.9) placed third and fourth, respectively.

The Tigers’ Parker Fitzgerald (17:08.4) and Ryan Ptak (17:10.1) occupied the next two spots.

Aberdeen Central’s Josh Martin (17:13) finished seventh and Brandon Valley’s Eli Cheever (17:17.2) ended up eighth.

Sam Conrad paced the ‘Cats with a 17:20.9 clocking, as he took ninth.

Harrisburg’s Pierce Okken (17:22.3) rounded out the top 10.

Luke Jacobs (17:24.7) was 11th in 17:24.7 to complete AC’s team tally.

Brookings’ Nick Diersen (18:38.5) was 37th and Talon Everding (18:38.7) ended up 38th.

Quentin Eck (19:16.8) crossed in 53rd and Ian Smith (19:19) finished 54th to round out the team score.
