Brookings airport seeing more growth

Mondell Keck/Register: Above, the aviation program at South Dakota State University currently has 185 students enrolled in it and keeps 15 aircraft at Brookings Regional Airport. Pilots are in such high demand right now that airlines are making job offers even before students graduate. Below, a new, 13,000-square-foot multi-bay hangar going up at Brookings Regional Airport will be able to house 12 of the aircraft in South Dakota State University’s aviation program. It’s expected to be completed in mid- to late October.

Increase linked to SDSU Aviation, tenants, customers

BROOKINGS – The new $1.2 million multi-bay hangar being constructed for South Dakota State University’s aviation program at Brookings Regional Airport is just the latest sign that business continues to boom not only for the program, but the airport as well. “The growth that the airport has had the last five years has been great … for the local and regional traffic that we have been seeing,” Airport Manager Matthew Sommerfeld said. “It’s good to see aviation in general, especially after COVID-19, thrive again.”
