Coffeehouse tips go to food pantry

BROOKINGS — The Mission of the Month for March at the Mission Coffeehouse in First Lutheran Church is The Brookings County Food Pantry.

The mission of the Brookings Food Pantry is to provide food on an emergency basis for those in need of temporary assistance. Food donated to the food pantry is distributed free to clients in need. Typically, the amount of food distributed is based on the number of people in a household and provides enough food for approximately one to two weeks.

Last year, the Brookings County Food Pantry served 1,702 adults and 1,363 children and 200 new families. The Brookings County Food Pantry is a nonprofit organization that receives funding from the United Way and Brookings County.

In addition, food is donated by county residents, churches and a wide variety of community organizations.

The pantry is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1-4:30 p.m. for public assistance. Donations can be dropped off between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on those days.
