Griefshare session started
BROOKINGS — The next session of Griefshare began on Aug. 20 at Brookings United Church of Christ.
Griefshare is a faith-based curriculum designed to help individuals through one of life’s most difficult experiences.
This 13-week program will meet every Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m.
All are welcome to begin attending at any point since each session is “self-contained” and not based on prior weeks topics.

Rummage sale proceeds to help backpack project
WHITE — Zion Lutheran Church in White is hosting a rummage sale fundraiser for the Deubrook Backpack Project for Deubrook Schools.
The event will be Sept. 16 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church at Fifth Street and Sherwood Avenue.
This a huge community rummage sale with many items donated items. Items are not priced. A free will offering may be given, and all proceeds will be directed to Deubrook Backpack Project.
Mission Coffeehouse tips go to Share the Warmth
BROOKINGS — The Mission of the Month for September at the Mission Coffeehouse at First Lutheran Church is Share the Warmth.
Winter is coming, and the public is invited to help keep Brookings warm. Share the Warmth is a one-day event to provide free winter outerwear items to people in need in Brookings County. The event is organized by The Salvation Army of Brookings County and takes place on Sept. 29, at Old Sanctuary, 928 Fourth St., Brookings.
Each year, Share the Warmth relies heavily on donations from community members, including new and gently used winter items as well as monetary donation. For items, the focus for donations is on new and gently used winter coats for all ages.
The Share the Warmth event is free and open to anyone living in Brookings County. Although the focus is to serve school-age children, if there are individuals and families in need, it is the mission of the organization to serve as many people in need as possible. To receive items at the Share the Warmth event, registration is required and open until Sept. 20.

Ham supper, country store in Elkton
ELKTON — The Elkton United Parish is holding its annual ham supper and country store on Sept. 27.
The event will run from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Elkton United Parish Church at 710 Cornell St. in the southwest corner of Elkton.
The cost is $13 for adults and $5 for youths ages 5-12. Those under 5 eat for free.
The menu will include ham, mashed potatoes and ham gravy, sweet potatoes, coleslaw, cranberry salad, fresh corn, seasoned green beans and homemade pies.
