The 31st annual McCrory Gardens Garden Party will be held from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at the gardens. The schedule includes: coffee on the terrace, 10 a.m.-noon; “Annuals on Canvas” painting class, $25, 10:30 a.m.; yoga in the gardens, $5, 11 a.m.; guided garden tours, 2 p.m. with Forestry Specialist Dr. John Ball, 4 p.m. with the gardens’ Chris and Christina, and 5 p.m. with Entomology Specialist Amanda Bachman; recognition of Butterfly Garden donors and Cottage Garden renovation announcement, 6 p.m.; and SDSU ice cream, music from Phil Baker and Friends of Murph, caricature artist, Balloon Squad and inflatables, 6:30-8 p.m.

Paramedic Wendy Long will teach Brookings Health System’s next Safe Sitter class from 9 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, in hospital conference room C. The class, recommended for young teens, 11 to 16 years old, teaches how to safely care for younger children and includes First Aid and CPR.

Saturday, Aug. 4

Aurora Gala Days 2018 continue Saturday, Aug. 4. Events include yoga in the park, 6:45 a.m.; Fun Run 5K, starting at 8 a.m. at the community center; bloodmobile, 8 a.m.-noon on Broadway Avenue; pancake feed, 8-10 a.m. at Little Hall; arts and craft vendors in the park, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; volleyball tournament starts, 10 a.m.; kids bike parade, 10:30 a.m.; parade, 11 a.m.; car/motorcycle show, noon on Broadway Avenue; bean bag tournament, 1 p.m. by Lemke’s; and a cook-off sponsored by the fire department, 2:30 p.m.

Brookings Regional Humane Society’s Putts Fore Paws charity golf tournament is set for Saturday, Aug. 4, at EdgeBrook Golf Course, with 8 a.m. registration and a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The four-person scramble costs $75 per player, which includes 18 holes, a cart and lunch. The event includes raffles, a silent auction, and lots of prizes.

Oakwood Lakes State Park will host a bike rodeo with Brookings County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Jon Pike at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4, at the park’s boat ramp. Pike will inspect kids’ bikes for safety and lead them through an obstacle course while practicing safe braking and turning skills. The event is free, but a valid day pass or state park sticker are required to get into the park.

Monday, Aug. 6

The Brookings County Museum complex and its new Trygve A. Trooien Horse-Drawn Museum in Volga’s City Park are free and open seven days a week, 1-4 p.m.

Tuesday, Aug. 7

The SDSU and Brookings police departments, Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol and South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks will team up from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, to host National Night Out at Pioneer Park. The agencies want to promote police-community partnerships, and all are invited to come enjoy raffles, snacks and beverages.

Wednesday, Aug. 8

1 Million Cups, a way for creators, artists, entrepreneurs and business owners to gather and share ideas on upcoming projects or new products, will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at the Children’s Museum of South Dakota. Free coffee will be served.

The South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum’s Centennial Music Series continues from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at 977 11th St., Brookings. Come enjoy live music, and purchase lunch from Backyard BBQ. No cover charge.

A Mall Outlet Clothing Sale will be held from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at the Swiftel Center. The event has free admission and is open to the public.

Brookings Health System Foundation’s ninth annual Aiming to Inspire Health sporting clays fundraiser will be held from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at the Medary Creek Hunt Club, Aurora. Register as a team for $250 or as an individual for $65; cost includes ammunition and a meal.

The summer concert series Downtown at Sundown continues its 2018 season from 5-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, in the 300 block of Fifth Street. The headliner this week is Avenger Joe. Bringing it back home is Aurora’s very own Kaila Dakota combining her band “On the Run” to form Avenger Joe. This five-member band specializes in country pop and rock music.

The family-friendly event also includes food and retail vendors and free kids’ activities. Admission is free.

Bandytown Productions and the Volga Area Community Arts Council present “Greater Tuna” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Aug. 9-11, at the Sioux Valley Performing Arts Center. Doors open at 7 p.m. each night, and tickets are $6 at the door. The show is intended for mature audiences.
