Brookings baseball splits doubleheader with Roosevelt

SIOUX FALLS – The Bobcats split a baseball doubleheader with Roosevelt on Tuesday, dropping the opener 7-3 and then winning the nightcap 6-5 in eight innings.

Brookings (3-1) heads to Rapid City for four games this weekend.

Game 1

 Sioux Falls Roosevelt 7, Brookings 3

The Rough Riders moved ahead 5-1 with three runs in the bottom of the fourth and pushed the margin to 7-1 in the sixth.

The Bobcats’ Cole Mahlum had a two-RBI double in the seventh.

Charlie Holm finished 2-for-4.

Game 2

 Brookings 6, Sioux Falls Roosevelt 5

Kyle Bauer plated Payton Theodosopoulos with a single in the top of the eighth for the go-ahead run.

Theodosopoulos drew a two-out walk and stole second. Bauer’s big hit came on a 3-2 pitch.

Brookings scored three times in the fifth to move ahead 5-1. Roosevelt rallied in the bottom of the seventh to knot things up.

Jackson Krogman ended up 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored.

Jake Ammann drove in a pair of runs and Jamison Honkomp chipped in with an RBI.

Bauer earned the pitching win in relief, surrendering one run on two hits with a pair of strikeouts and a walk over the final two frames.

Starter Henry Hammrich allowed four runs on eight hits with six strikeouts and a walk in six-plus innings.
