The Brookings Bombers Black team, Brookings 14U team, went 2-2 over the weekend. They pounded Harrisburg on Friday with two double digit victories and lost two close games Sunday against Sioux Falls East.

Brookings scored 11 runs in the first two innings which propelled them to a dominant win game one.
The Bombers scored two runs in the first inning. Owen Schneider hit an RBI triple and then scored on a wild pitch. Brookings broke the game wide open in the second inning with nine runs. The inning was highlighted by a two-run single from Addison Ronning. Jared Khale and Breck Hirrschoff each had RBI singles. Harrisburg walked six batters in the inning.
Harrisburg scored one run in the bottom of the second inning. The Bombers scored one run on a Austin Clark sacrifice fly in the top of the third to make it 12-1. They added one more run in the top of the fourth on a Jack Merritt single and scored two runs in the top of the fifth. Ronning and Griffen Bartels hit back-to-back RBI singles to make it 15-1.
The game ended after the fifth inning because of the 10-run rule. Merritt and Schneider each went 1-for-3 with two RBI’s. Ronning went 3-for-4 with three RBI’s. Clark went 1-for-2 with two RBI’s. Clark pitched all five innings for the Bombers. He gave up one earned run on two hits with seven strike outs and one walk.

The Bombers scored 12 runs in the first inning which led to a 10-rule victory in five innings.
The first inning was highlighted by a two-run double from Griffen Bartels. Owen Schneider hit an RBI triple and Nolan Miles hit a RBI double in the inning as well. Harrisburg scored two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Brookings added two runs in the top of the second. Austin Clark scored on a walk with the bases loaded and David Brink hit an RBI single. They held Harrisburg scoreless in the bottom of the second. The Bombers scored one run in the third on a passed ball to make it 15-2.
The Bombers held Harrisburg scoreless in the bottom of third, but were unable to score in the top of the fourth. Harrisburg struck for two runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 15-4. Brookings would score one run in the fifth on a RBI single from Clark.
Brookings held Harrisburg scoreless in the bottom of the fifth and the game ended because of the 10-run rule. Addison Ronning went 3-for-3 with three RBI’s. Jack Merritt and Bartels each went 2-for-4 with two RBI’s. Clark went 3-for-4 with two RBI’s. Ronning picked up the win after pitching the first inning. He gave up two earned runs on one hit. He struck out one batter and walked three.

Sioux Falls East went up 4-0 in the first inning and led the entire game to take game one.
Brookings got on the board in the top of the third. Merritt hit an RBI single to make it 4-1. Sioux Falls East responded with a run in the bottom of the inning to make it 5-1.
The Bombers scored a run in the top of the fifth when Hirrschoff hit an RBI double. Miles hit a single to lead off the top of the sixth, but the next three batters went down one-two-three so the game ended.
Hirrschoff went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Merritt went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Schneider picked up the loss after pitching the first inning. He gave up four runs, three earned on three hits. He had no strike outs and two walks.

The Bombers had seven hits, but were unable to score any runs as they lost game two.
Sioux Falls East scored one run in the bottom of the first. Brookings had two runners on with two outs in the top of the third, but Schneider popped out to the catcher. Sioux Falls East then scored one run in the bottom of the third to make it 2-0.
Brookings had two runners on in the top of the fourth. Merritt got caught stealing and Bartels grounded out. They had the bases loaded in the fifth with one out. Hirrschoff popped out to the catcher and Schneider popped out to the pitcher. Miles was hit by a pitch to lead off the sixth inning, but the next three batters all got out and the game ended.
Ronning went 1-for-2. Hirrschoff, Schneider, Bartels, Merritt and Clark each went 1-for-3. Hirrschoff pitched all five innings for Brookings. He gave up two runs, one earned on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
The Bombers play Brandon Valley in the State Tournament in Aberdeen on Friday at 12:15 p.m.
