Brookings bowlers split home matches

BROOKINGS – The Brookings High School boys’ and girls’ bowling teams each went 1-1 in matches held on Friday and Saturday at The Lanes in Brookings.

The Bobcats on Friday were swept by Sioux Falls Washington in a makeup of a date postponed by weather, but on Saturday both Brookings teams responded with big wins over McCook Central/Montrose.

Friday

Girls

 Washington 31, Brookings 19

Four Brookings bowlers posted an over-500 series, but the Warriors picked up the win.

Teagen Bremmon led the Bobcats with a 568 series including a high game of 204, while Brooklyn Hieb came in just three points back with a 565 series while also registering a top game of 204.

Janine Warne’s 538 series included a high game of 201, and Catelyn Vernarsky tossed a 502 series with top game of 193.

Brooke Seeley’s 494 series (191 high game) and Kacee Rhody’s 450 series (158 high game) rounded out the Bobcat scoring.

The Brookings JV also fell to Washington, 33-17. Peyton McBride tossed a 476 series with high game of 178.

Boys

 Washington 41, Brookings 9

Only two Brookings bowlers eclipsed a 500 in their series as the Warriors picked up a big win.

Stanley Scubelek led the Bobcats with a 618 series including top game of 221.

Dylan Scubelek’s 512 series was the second-highest Bobcat tally, including a high game of 173.

Adrian Howard tossed a 497 series with 170 as his high game, while Gabe Boyer threw a high game of 208 as part of a 469 series.

Jaiden Monell’s 404 series (146 high game) and James Tefft’s 378 series (149 high game) completed the Brookings scoring.

The Warriors also won the JV match, 48-2. Aviel Cadet posted a high game of 153 as part of a team-high 359 series.

Saturday

Girls

 Brookings 48, McCook Central/Montrose 2

The Bobcat girls’ rebounded with balanced scoring and a team series average of 523 in coming close to a shutout of McCook Central/Montrose.

Vernarsky led Brookings with a 563 series including a top game of 207, and Warne followed closely with a 549 series with a 188 high game.

Bremmon added a 536 series with 195 high game, and Hieb’s 532 series included a big game of 234.

Seeley posted a 491 series that included a 185 high game, and Rhody rounded out the Bobcat scoring with a 471 series and 188 high game.

Brookings shutout the Fighting Cougars 50-0 in the girls’ JV match. McBride’s 401 series was tops for the Bobcats JV, including a high game of 164.

Boys

 Brookings 45, McCook Central/Montrose 5

Boyer led Brookings with a 628 series and a top game of the day of 243 to lead the Bobcats to a big victory.

Howard logged the second-highest series score for Brookings with a 583, but posted the top game score of the day with a 256.

Dylan Scubelek’s 529 series included a 210 point high game, while Stanley Scubelek’s 468 series had a top game of 170.

Monell’s 454 series (170 high game) and Tefft’s 428 series (157 top game) completed the Brookings scoring.

The Brookings JV also won, picking up a 42-8 victory. Cadet posted both high series (296) and game (116) to lead Brookings.

The Bobcats travel to Yankton this Friday.
