BRANDON – The Brookings boys and girls cross country teams fared well at the five-team Brandon Valley Lynx Invitational this past Saturday at McHardy Park in Brandon.

Brookings boys win in Brandon

BRANDON – The Brookings boys and girls cross country teams fared well at the five-team Brandon Valley Lynx Invitational this past Saturday at McHardy Park in Brandon.

The boys’ won the team event, while the girls had two runners in the top-15.

The Bobcats next take part in the Clyde Cotton Invitational Meet on Saturday, Sept. 18 at Broadland Creek Country Club in Huron.

Boys Varsity

Brookings’ Sam Conrad took home top honors, posting a time of 17:07.83 to win the meet by nearly 11 seconds over Yankton’s Zach Fedde. The Bucks’ Dylan Payer finished third.

The Bobcats placed four runners in the top nine to win the team title with a score of 22, nine points clear of Brandon Valley.

Torry Harding placed fifth in a time of 17:51.36, followed by Nick Diersen in seventh in a time of 18:19.12, and Jacob York in ninth in 18:23.16.

Girls Varsity

Brandon Valley’s Addison Scholten won the individual title by over a minute, posting a time of 19:07.42.

The Lynx’s Mia Wentzy took second in a time of 20:23.63, followed by Yankton’s Thea Chance in third at 20:58.30.

Addie Smetana crossed in ninth with a time of 22:18.56, and the Bobcats’ Lily Murray finished 15th in 22:59.68.

Smetana and Murray were the only two Brookings runners entered.

Brandon Valley won the team title.

Boys JV

Brookings’ Nathan Smith finished ninth in the boys JV race in a time of 15:56.48, followed by Joey Fitzpatrick in 14th in 16:32.91, and Ben Hawkinson in 21st in 17:01.84.

Brandon Valley won the boys JV team title with a perfect score of 10.

The Bobcats placed third with 57 points.

Girls JV

The Bobcats’ Sophia Schmit finished in second place in a time of 17:44.32.

Madison Kepner crossed the finish line in 19:03.57 for ninth place, and Kennedy Nemitz took 11th in a time of 19.36.09.

Brookings took second in team scoring, compiling a score of 34 points.
