BROOKINGS – The Brookings Chamber Music Society has announced its 2022-23 season and fall membership drive. Allied closely to the South Dakota State University School of Performing Arts, the society’s mission is to present the finest in chamber music for the enjoyment of the Brookings community.
The season opens Oct. 7 with the 9 Horses. The trio represents a vision of a musical future with no barrier between folk art and fine arts. They perform on both an acoustic and electric mandolin, violin and bass.
On Nov. 3, Minneapolis-based organist Scott Turkington is featured on the Founders Recital Hall organ. Turkington is organist at Holy Family Catholic Church and has performed as organist for cathedrals in Charleston, Stamford and Washington D.C.
March 20 will feature a performance by Ensemble Chaconne, a Boston-based period-instrument ensemble specializing in the music from the Renaissance and Baroque European eras. The ensemble has performed in England, Canada and the United States.
The season closes with a performance by the Poulenc Trio on March 26. The piano- bassoon-oboe ensemble performs masterworks as well as music that reflects members’ African, Asian, Eastern-Europen and Jewish roots.
Season subscriptions are available now by calling the SDSU School of Performing Arts in the Oscar Larson Per-forming Arts Center. An adult season subscription is priced at $50 and includes all four concerts. The series is sponsored in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, the South Dakota Arts Council, and Arts Midwest.
