Brookings clips Capitals, 5-2


FT. PIERRE – The Rangers got back into the win column with a 5-2 triumph over Oahe on Sunday in Ft. Pierre.

Brookings, 3-2 on the season, plays host to Sioux Falls on Friday at Larson Ice Center.

Tied 2-2 through two periods of play, the Rangers tallied three unanswered goals in the third for a 5-2 win over the Capitals.

Bethany Rennich’s late goal in the first period off a Jadyn Peterson assist gave Brookings a 1-0 lead after one.

Peterson made it 2-0 less than two minutes into the second as Montana Myer and Brooklyn Roberts set up the goal, but the home team came back with a pair of unassisted goals to knot it up at 2-all through two.

Janaya Kuehl scored the game-winning goal less than five minutes into the third as Roberts picked up another assist.

Peterson made it 4-2 midway through the frame as Savannah Barber earned the helper, and then, Carlie Kruse provided for the final margin with an unassisted tally will just over a minute to play.

Brookings outshot the Capitals, 44-17, as Jaydyn Runge finished with 15 assists in the win.
