SIOUX FALLS – The Bobcats made the most of their first outdoor track and field competition of the season, getting two automatic qualifying marks and 11 provisional marks at the Sioux Falls O’Gorman Quadrangular on Thursday.

Brookings opened the season with the ESD Indoor on March 29 at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex, but wintery weather has continued to wreak havoc on spring sports.

Girls

Ellie Abraham led the charge, winning the 1,600-meter run in 5 minutes, 17.4 seconds and automatically qualifying for the state meet in the process.

Amanda Flores Schulte posted a pair of provisional marks as she won the discus with a throw of 112 feet, 10 inches and took second in the shot put with a heave of 37-2 (1 inch shy of automatic status).

Grace Eggebrecht had provisional times in three events as she took third in the 100 hurdles (16.28), fourth in the 100 dash (13.02) and fifth in the 200 (27.55).

Emily Rystrom took second in the 200 (26.66) and Kailee Bartels matched that finish in the 100 hurdles (15.91). Both times make them provisional qualifiers.

Also posting provisional marks were Ellie Hegdahl in the 100 hurdles (16.4) and Kylie Tucker in the high jump (4-10). They finished fourth.

Clarissa Miller won the triple jump with a mark of 32-6 3/4.

Placing third were Ainsley Powers in the 3,200 (12:14.2) and Ashley Anderson in the discus (104-5).

Boys

Dillon Jensen easily surpassed the automatic qualifying standard in the discus, winning the event with a mark of 149 feet, 9 inches.

Isaac Conrad posted a provisional time in the 800, clocking in in 2:04.4 to place second.

Seth Swedlund cleared the provisional height in the high jump, 5-10, as he took sixth.

Jensen added a runner-up showing in the shot put at 45-6.
