BROOKINGS – Participants, team members and family of the Brookings County Drug Court participated in a bed-building event with the local chapter of Sleep In Heavenly Peace recently.
Over 25 people associated with drug court joined forces with SHP seasoned veterans in sanding, drilling, staining and then branding bed frames to be distributed to area children in need of a bed.
The event was coordinated in part to recognize National Drug Court Awareness Month, marked annually in May.
Drug court provides treatment, supervision and support for people whose criminal matters are rooted in addiction, allowing them to remain in their community while building a sober lifestyle.
In total, 11 beds were constructed in the evening and will be delivered by SHP to their new homes.
