Brookings County removes its burning ban

BROOKINGS – On Tuesday morning, the Brookings County commissioners lifted the county burn ban that was enacted on Oct. 18.

Concerning the decision to rescind the ban, commission department director Stacy Steffensen said Sheriff Marty Stanwick and emergency manager Bob Hill had brought her the request to lift the ban. She added that they had “visited with the fire chiefs throughout the county and they’re OK with rescinding it at this time.”

The commission voted unanimously to lift the ban, which was originally declared due to the county being in a high grassland fire danger category caused by dry air, high wind gusts and a lack of rainfall.
