Brookings downs Yankton, 1-0

YANKTON – In the 65th minute of play, a goal by Ava Burns lifted the Bobcats to a 1-0 Eastern South Dakota Conference win over the Gazelles in girls’ soccer action on Tuesday.

Yankton held a 26-17 advantage in shots, including a 10-6 edge in shots on goal, for the match as Grace Mork earned the win in goal with 10 saves.

Burns finished with four shots, including a shot on goal in each half, while Josie Bono had two shots on goal in the second half.

Emily Rystrom and Rylee Stromer-Iverson took three and two shots, respectively, in the first half, as Kate Ropp had one shot on goal in the first and two shots in the second.

Brookings improved to 4-7 and closes out the regular season at Pierre on Thursday.

Junior varsity

The Bobcats gave up two first-half goals in a 2-0 loss to Yankton in JV play.

Brianna Taylor finished with four saves in the first half while Erin Yarrow came up with five saves in the second as the Gazelles outshot Brookings, 13-5.

SIOUX FALLS - O'Gorman dominated play, but it wasn't until the 53rd minute of the match that the Lady Knights finally broke the scoreless deadlock against the Bobcats.

Theresa Fischer found the back of the net with an unassisted goal and the lone goal held up as OG held on for a 1-0 nonconference win over Brookings in girls' soccer action on Saturday at McEneaney Field.

The Lady Knights held a 15-6 edge in shots, including a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal as Grace Mork finished with eight saves for the Bobcats.

Josie Bono led BHS with three shots, including two shots on goal in the second half. Ava Burns had the other shot in goal in the second half while Alexis McGuire and Emily Rystrom each took a shot in the first half.

The loss dropped the Bobcats' record to 3-7 as O'Gorman improved to 3-4-3.
