Brookings finishes fifth in ESD tourney

MITCHELL – Henry Homstad carded a 2-over-par 74 to claim medalist honors and lead Yankton to the Eastern South Dakota Conference Boys’ Golf Tournament title on Saturday at Lakeview.

The Bucks shot 305. Harrisburg (310), Brandon Valley (324) and Mitchell (332) were second through fourth, respectively.

Brookings ended up fifth at 337. Aberdeen Central (339) was sixth, Pierre (356) seventh and Huron (357) eighth. Watertown did not compete.

Yankton’s Landon Moe and Harrisburg’s Will Allen and Tyson Kogel tied for second individually with matching 75s. The Kernels’ Macon Larson (76) placed fifth.

Eleven of the 48 golfers broke 80.

The Bobcats’ Egan Jensen and Jack Even tied for 15th at 81. Kade Brecher (87) tied for 27th and Justin Kortan (88) tied for 29th to round out the team tally. Also for BHS, Karson Deckert (93) tied for 37th. Matt Weelborg was disqualified.

Brookings has a triangular at Elmwood on Thursday at noon in Sioux Falls.
