BROOKINGS — There were no injuries in an attic fire in Brookings just before noon Thursday that was quickly contained by the Brookings Fire Department.

The blaze, reported at about 11:50 a.m. in a house on 1214 Western Ave., drew a response consisting of four trucks and 22 firefighting personnel, Deputy Fire Chief Dan Kriese wrote in a news release on Friday. He added the first truck was on-scene about four minutes after the call came in. The fire took approximately 10 minutes to contain and was determined to be accidental in nature.

Kriese wrote that crews remained at the scene for about 1.5 hours in order to monitor the structure and extinguish any hot spots. A portion of Western Avenue was shut down in order to give firefighters a safe area in which to do their work.

In addition to the BFD, other responding agencies were the Brookings Police Department and Brookings Ambulance.
