BROOKINGS – A Brookings man is facing a felony charge after police say he allegedly assaulted a man at Walmart on Wednesday night.

Ronald Roberts, 39, is facing one count of abuse of an elderly person, a Class 6 felony, according to Brookings County State’s Attorney Dan Nelson.

Brookings Police officers were called to Walmart at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday for a report of an individual assaulting a 65-year-old Flandreau man.

A probable cause statement from Brookings Police alleges the victim said he was stocking shelves when the suspect punched him in the back of the head and then punched him three more times in the face before leaving the scene.

The Flandreau man was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries, BPD Sgt. Joel Perry said.

Perry said several witnesses helped the victim at the scene, and police are asking them to come forward to assist in the investigation.
