Brookings man arrested for alleged kidnapping, assault

BROOKINGS – A Brookings man is facing kidnapping and assault charges after police say he allegedly punched, strangled and held a woman against her will.

Dayzsha Bordeaux, 41, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault domestic, two counts of simple assault domestic and aggravated kidnapping, according to a news release from Brookings Police Department Detective Adam Smith.

According to the release, officers responded for a welfare check at approximately 9:20 p.m. Thursday in the 1000 block of Western Avenue. Officers found that a 39-year-old Sioux Falls woman was allegedly assaulted and held against her will at the residence over several days. Smith said the woman was taken to Brookings Health System for significant facial injuries and was found to have a nasal fracture.

The woman said Bordeaux had punched and strangled her, according to a probable cause statement from Brookings Police.

A second victim, a 59-year-old Brookings man, was also allegedly assaulted by Bordeaux, according to Smith. The man was checked out by EMS on scene for rib and ear injuries, but wasn’t taken to the hospital.

Bordeaux is being held at the Brookings County Detention Center on $25,000 cash-only bond, according to the Brookings County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Bordeaux’s mother, Lorna Dean, 66, was also arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to the assault and kidnapping, according to the release.

The woman from Sioux Falls was also taken into custody for an outstanding warrant.
