Brookings man dies in tractor accident

WHITE – A Brookings man died after his tractor rolled Wednesday, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Duane Emmett, 71, of Brookings, died at the scene, Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring said.

The accident was reported at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday and occurred on 484th Avenue, about three-quarters of a mile north of 207th Street, Sebring said. The location is southeast of White, a couple of miles from the Minnesota border.

“The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, Elkton Ambulance, Elkton Fire Department, Brookings Ambulance and Brookings Fire Department responded to a tractor rollover with a male pinned underneath. The accident was reported by a passing motorist who stayed at the scene until first responders arrived,” Sebring said.

“The driver was operating a John Deere 4030 tractor with a sickle mower attached cutting the grass in the ditch when the tractor rolled, pinning the driver underneath the cab. First responders found the driver was deceased at the scene,” Sebring said.

The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, Sebring added.
