Brookings office celebrates National Salvation Army Week

BROOKINGS – The Salvation Army of Brookings County welcomes the community to its open house celebrating National Salvation Army Week from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at the Brookings office, 410 Seventh St. 

The community is invited to tour the office, discuss services, and enjoy some sweet treats. The Salvation Army also encourages the community to follow the organization on Facebook (@ The Salvation Army of Brookings County) to participate in other scheduled activities.

Other events planned for this week include:  

• Tuesday – Visit the Advance Education Center bell-ringing volunteers at Lewis Drug from noon-2 p.m.  

• Wednesday – Clues will be posted on Facebook early in the day for a downtown business scavenger hunt. Ten bells will be hidden in five businesses. Lucky winners will receive prizes.  

• Friday – South Dakota State University’s Alpha Xi Delta Epsilon Eta will complete a service project of packing laundry and hygiene packs that will be distributed at the Salvation Army office.  

• All week – The Share the Warmth Spring Donation Drive collects winter outerwear and donations for the Brookings Regional Humane Society. Drop all donations in the Best Choice Real Estate truck at First Bank & Trust, downtown location. The drive ends Sunday, May 15.
