BROOKINGS COUNTY — Two people have been arrested in connection to burglaries that were reported near Sinai on March 22 and in Aurora on March 25.

Brookings residents Quentin Schmidt, 32, and Breanna Pearson, 27, were located and arrested on May 10 by personnel with the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office. Scott Sebring, the assistant sheriff with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, wrote in a news release that both suspects are facing multiple charges:

  • Possession of a controlled drug or substance.
  • Possession/distribution drugs in a drug-free zone.
  • Maintaining a place where drugs are kept, sold or used.
  • Distribution/manufacture of a controlled drug.
  • Grand theft.
  • Third-degree burglary.
  • Second-degree burglary.

Sebring added that Schmidt and Pearson are currently in the Brookings County Detention Center, each with a $10,000 cash-only bond.

Prior to their arrests, an investigation uncovered evidence at a residence in the 500 block of Seventh Avenue in Brookings, Sebring wrote.

Specifically, deputies with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office were able to secure a search warrant on May 1 for the apartment, vehicles and cellphones of Schmidt and Pearson. Sebring wrote that during the search, methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, other dangerous drugs, firearms, evidence of drug distribution activity and many stolen items were recovered in connection with the rural Brookings County burglaries.

After completing the search, arrest warrants were issued for Schmidt and Pearson, who had already fled the area at the time of the search.
