BROOKINGS — This year, the Brookings Public Library will be honoring Black History Month with an exploration and exaltation of Black arts through their “Black Media is Beautiful” event series.

The series of events will kick off on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. with a presentation on Black music history, entitled “Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, and Their Contributions to Jazz,” by Yiqun Chen, lecturer of saxophone and jazz studies at SDSU.

This presentation will provide an overview of the development of jazz music in the United States and highlight specific contributions by Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and Miles Davis.

All “Black Media is Beautiful” events will be in person in the library’s Cooper Room and live streamed on Zoom. Zoom links to all events can be found on the library’s website calendar or Facebook page.

For more information on the dates, times, and descriptions for future “Black Media is Beautiful” events, visit the library’s website at www.brookingslibrary.org, grab a brochure at the library’s circulation desk or follow the library on Facebook @bkglib.

The library's mission is to provide materials and information contributing to the education, recreation and quality of life for the Brookings community.
