MITCHELL – The Bobcats used a big second half to beat the Kernels 54-41 in an Eastern South Dakota Conference girls’ basketball matchup Thursday at the Corn Palace.
Brookings trailed 23-16 at halftime after shooting just 29.2 percent (7-of-24) from the field.
The Bobcats moved ahead 36-34 at the end of three quarters and then outscored Mitchell 18-7 in the fourth to seal the deal.
Brookings shot 52.2 percent (12-of-23) in the second half.
Michaela Jewett posted another double-double, scoring 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting and grabbing 12 rebounds.
Carolyn Hieb canned three 3-pointers and finished with 13 points to go with four assists.
Johanna Miller added 12 points, six boards and four dimes. Ava Burns had seven points and eight rebounds.
Mackenzie Miller paced Mitchell with 11 points, three boards, three assists and three steals.
The Kernels dropped to 5-6 (3-3).
Brookings (9-2, 7-2) plays host to Sioux Falls Lincoln on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
