Brookings Rotarians sponsor student in Tanzania

Courtesy photo: Lidia Elias Mzumbwe, a student at the School of St. Jude in Tanzania, receives a backpack full of supplies and books from Dr. Willis Sutliff, a Rotarian from the Rapid City Rushmore club. Sutliff and his wife, Pat, were members of a Rotary District 5610 team that visited Tanzania earlier this summer in support of the Rotary-sponsored students at the School of St. Jude. Lidia’s tuition and supplies are directly sponsored by the Brookings Rotary Club and local Rotarian Gregg Jongeling and his wife, Vi.

BROOKINGS – Many of the service projects sponsored by the Brookings Rotary Club are local community-focused, including food and coat drives, maintenance of part of McCrory Gardens, the Downtown Rotary Clock, the installation of children’s playground equipment and family learning trails in parks, and career preparation for teens. But quietly and consistently, the club and two individual donors also have been supporting the education of an at-risk young African girl in far-away Tanzania.
