Brookings Rotary November Students of the Month

BROOKINGS – Brookings High School seniors Cydne Munson and Maci Law were honored as the Brookings Rotary Club’s November 2018 Students of the Month.  

Munson is the daughter of Lane and Dawn Munson of Brookings. Some of her in-school activities include: Varsity gymnastics, Spanish Club, Student Council, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), National Honor Society, FCCLA, and Prom Committee. Outside of school, she is involved in religious youth group, volunteers at the Children’s Museum of South Dakota, and is a gymnastics coach at Gold Medal Gymnastics. Her honors include: co-captain varsity gymnastics team, co-chair Formal Committee, National Merit Semifinalist, AP Scholar, and Varsity Scholar Award (grades 9-11). After graduation from BHS, Munson plans to attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and major in mathematics.

Law is the daughter of Carrie Vugteveen and Dave Law. Some of the activities in which she has been involved are: gymnastics, Student Council, choir, jazz choir, Choir Council, FCCLA, fall musical, and track and field. Her activities outside of school include children’s worship leader at First Lutheran and Character Counts. Her honors and offices include: National Honor Society member, student body president, Choir Council co-chair, AP Scholar, Music Scholar, and Varsity Scholar.  

Law plans to attend the University of Minnesota/Twin Cities and hopes to study either business and human resources or secondary education.

Each month during the school year, the Brookings Rotary Club recognizes two students who excel in exhibiting their motto “Service Above Self” and fulfill the ideals of the four-way test: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
