Brookings softball team splits twinbill with Dakota Valley

BROOKINGS – The Bobcats split a softball doubleheader with Dakota Valley on Sunday, winning 9-8 and losing 8-3.

In the win, Sydney Grendler went 3-for-3 with three runs scored.

Sydney Schneider (2-for-3) and Landry Wilson (1-for-3) both drove in three runs. Riley Weisbeck and Jaelynn Gaspar added a hit and an RBI apiece.

Annika Hawks picked up the win in the circle, giving up 11 hits and a walk.

Brookings led 7-1 after two innings. It was 7-3 after three innings, and the Bobcats scored a single run in the fourth to go up 8-3.

The Panthers put up a five-spot in the top of the fifth to pull even; however, Jenna Eischens – courtesy running for Hawks – scored the winning run in the bottom of the fifth.

In the other game, Dakota Valley scored two runs in the first inning, five in the fourth and one in the fifth for the 8-3 victory.

Wilson finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI. Grendler was 2-for-3 and Janine Warne had the team’s other hit.

Jessa Rindels took the pitching loss after allowing 13 hits with a pair of strikeouts.

Sunday, Sept. 9

PIPESTONE, Minn. – The Bobcats fell 7-6 to West Central and 9-2 to the host Arrows.

n West Central 7, Brookings 6

Brookings scored in the top of the seventh to pull even with West Central at 6-6, but the Trojans plated the winning run in the bottom of the inning.

The Bobcats led 4-1 after 2 1/2 innings. The Trojans pulled even in the bottom of the third and were up 6-5 through four.

Landry Wilson was 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Sydney Grendler (two runs) and Sierra Stevens (double) both finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jessa Rindels singled and drove in a pair of runs. Janine Warne had two hits.

Pitcher Riley Weisback gave up seven hits and four walks.

The Arrows scored three runs in both the first and fourth innings to grab a 6-0 advantage.

Jaelynn Gaspar ended up 2-for-3 with an RBI. Grendler had a hit and an RBI.

Sydney Schneider was 2-for-2 with a double. Wilson doubled and scored.

Rindels walked seven batters and struck out four.
