PIERRE – Wendy Otheim, special education director for the Brookings School District, was honored at the national level Monday as the 2019 CASE Outstanding Administrator of Special Education.
The Council of Administrators of Special Education is an international professional association.
Otheim’s recognition was part of an awards luncheon at the CASE/NASDSE (National Association of State Directors of Special Education) Joint Conference in Louisville, Kentucky.
“I’ve come to know Wendy as a passionate and effective leader for South Dakota’s students,” Secretary of Education Ben Jones said. “I’m not surprised by this award at all. She clearly deserves it.”
The CASE Outstanding Administrator of Special Education Award recognizes individuals making significant professional contributions to leadership behavior and field practice in the administration of programs for students with disabilities and/or who are gifted.
