Brookings Stay Safe Pledge launches

BROOKINGS – Brookings businesses, residents and visitors have a new way to communicate their shared commitment to keeping the community healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Brookings Stay Safe Pledge launched this week, giving participants an opportunity to show their efforts in following safety guidelines.

“As SDSU students return, public schools prepare to head back to the classroom and businesses attempt to get back to normal, it is important to work together on this effort,” Visit Brookings Board Chair Randy Soma said.

The core of the program is a reminder to practice good hygiene and follow CDC health guidelines. The Brookings Stay Safe Pledge includes reminders to:

• Wash hands frequently

• Follow physical distancing and capacity guidelines

• Follow CDC standards of cleaning and sanitation

• Wear face coverings if social distancing is not possible

• Encourage employees to stay home if they are sick

• Train employees on COVID-19 safety procedures

Those interested can find the pledge at www.visitbrookingssd.com. Committing to the pledge gives access to an online toolkit providing elements which can be downloaded and posted in businesses or on their social media.

“This effort started in the visitor industry, but is expanding across the entire community,” Visit Brookings Executive Director Laura Schoen Carbonneau said. “The pledge specifically lists things businesses and organizations can do in addition to common sense actions for guests and customers. It truly is a responsibility for all of us to do our part in promoting health, whether working, shopping or visiting our community.”

The Brookings Stay Safe pledge is a voluntary effort supported jointly by Visit Brookings, The Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce, City of Brookings, Brookings Economic Development Corporation, Brookings Health System, the Brookings School District and South Dakota State University. It complements other health and safety efforts in the community.
