Brookings wins 17 events in dual versus Huron

BROOKINGS – The Bobcats won 17 of the 28 events during a home track and field dual against Huron on Tuesday afternoon.

Brookings closes out the regular season at the Mark Wendelgass Relays on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Huron.

Girls

The Bobcats swept the top nine spots in the shot put and the top seven positions in the discus.

Haley Sampson won the shot with a put of 34 feet, 9 1/4 inches. Celia Dobrenski (31-7 1/4) was runner-up.

Ashley Anderson finished first in the discus (106-9). Johanna Miller (98-3) ended up second.

Jaixai Reineke completed the 1,600 in 5 minutes, 40.91 seconds to place first and lead four Brookings runners in the top four. Katie Osbeck (5:56.74) crossed second.

Allie Clark won the 300-meter hurdles with a 48.87 clocking. Rachel Gannon (50.04) was second as the Bobcats had the top three finishers.

Kailee Bartels (23.38) was first in the 200 and Kylie Tucker (27.7) was second.

Kayla Shoup (2:23.75) and Ainsley Powers (2:31.15) finished first and second, respectively, in the 800.

Tayla Dobrenski (16.27) and Ella Kjelden (16.71) went 1-2 in the 100 hurdles.

Sydney Schneider won the triple jump with a mark of 32-9 3/4, as Julie Schniese (31-8) was runner-up.

Cherish Stern placed first in the 400 (1:03.61) and Dobrenski matched that finish in the high jump (4-9).

Also taking second were Gannon in the long jump (15-11 1/4) and Regan Weisbeck in the pole vault (8-0).

Boys

The Bobcats had the top four finishers in the 1,600 meters, led by Charles Wang, who recorded a winning time of 4:39.31. Sam Conrad (4:45.48) was runner-up.

Brookings went 1-2-3 in the shotput. Tucker Christie won with a heave of 42-9 1/2 and Sean Collins (42-6 1/2) placed second.

Noah Bayer raced to the 100-meter crown with a 11.16 clocking. Eric Lam (11.35) was second.

Gabel Goldhorn (40-2 3/4) and Carter Johnson (38-11) ended up first and second, respectively, in the triple jump.

Also posting wins were Collins in the discus (123-9) and Ian Smith in the 800 (2:19.74). Brookings won the 4x100-meter relay in 45.07 seconds.

Max Struck took second in the 200 (23.87) and Ange Aime Zokou finished in the same position in the long jump (19-5 3/4).

Elkton-Lake Benton’s Grant DeRuyter competed in a pair of events, winning the long jump (19-8 3/4) and placing third in the tirple jump (38-4 3/4).
