BROOKINGS – South Dakota State University 125-pounder Connor Brown was named Wednesday as Big 12 Wrestler of the Week after winning a pair of matches in dual action against league foes.

A freshman from Oak Grove, Mo, Brown opened the week with an 8-6 victory over Wyoming’s Drake Foster in a 20-18 Jackrabbit victory on Jan. 18. Three days later, Brown rallied for a second-period pin against 18th-ranked Jay Schwarm of Northern Iowa. Brown trailed 6-0 early, but came back to tie match at 8 with a pair of reversals and four-point near-fall at the end of the first period. He then opened the second period with his third reversal of the match, which he turned into a pin.

With the two wins, Brown improved to 16-9 overall and 7-4 in duals. His victories also propelled him into the individual national rankings for the first time in his collegiate career as he was tabbed 20th at 125 pounds by FloWrestling.

Brown is the second Jackrabbit to be honored as Big 12 Wrestler of the Week this season, joining David Kocer, who was honored Dec. 13.
