Bruins beat Blizzard, 4-1

BROOKINGS – Austin scored three third-period goals to break a 1-1 tie on the way to a 4-1 Central Division win over the Blizzard on Saturday night at Larson Ice Center.

The Bruins led 1-0 after a period on Garrett Dahm’s late goal, but the Blizzard leveled the game when Cam Babiak cashed in on a power-play chance midway through the second off assists from Brendan Aird and Gabe Wahl.

Dahm netted a short-handed goal less than 3 minutes into the third period Richard Szabo made it 3-1 with 11:54 to play. Josef Mysak’s power-play goal with 2:45 on the clock provided for the final margin.

Kyle McClellan stopped 20 of 21 shots for the win while Jack Caruso finished with 28 saves.

The second-place Bruins improved to 17-6-0-3 with 37 points while the last-place Blizzard dropped to 3-22-1-1 with eight points.

Next up for Brookings is a two-game series at the MN Wilderness on Friday and Saturday.

The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. on Friday and 7:35 p.m. on Saturday in Cloquet, Minn.
