AUSTIN, Minn. – It looks like the Bruins have the Blizzard’s number.
After Wednesday night’s huge rally at Larson Ice Center where Austin scored five unanswered goals for an overtime win, Brookings fell, 3-2, after a shootout on Friday night.
Tied up at 2-2, neither team could light the lamp in either the third period or the five-minute overtime.
In the shootout, both Jimmy Elser and Max Sasson found the back of the net before the next four skaters came up empty. Meanwhile, Austin’s Dante Zapata and Evan Cholak each converted for the 2-2 deadlock.
After the Blizzard came up empty on four chances, Jaden Shields scored to win the game.
The Bruins held a 38-36 advantage in shots as Mads Sogaard came up with 34 saves to earn the win in net.
Zachary Borgiel finished with 36 saves as the Blizzard dropped to 14-16-2-2 and are in last place in the Central Division standings.
The two teams square off again tonight at Larson Ice Center. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
