Bull hit by two drivers

ELKTON – A bull was hit by two drivers early Wednesday morning, resulting in one driver being taken to the hospital, according to the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

The bull did not survive the crash.

The accident was reported at 12:50 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. Highway 14 near 482nd Avenue near Elkton, said Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring.

Andrew Stevens, 28, of Brookings, was driving a 2000 Mercury Sable eastbound and struck the bull that was in the roadway. Juan Apolinar, 26, of Brookings, was driving a 2003 Ford Focus westbound and struck the bull that was laying in the roadway, causing his vehicle to roll, Sebring said.

“Juan was transported by ambulance to the Brookings Hospital with unknown injuries. Juan was issued citations for driving with a suspended driver’s license and no insurance. Andrew was issued a citation for no insurance,” Sebring said.

Both vehicles were deemed total losses.

Also responding were Elkton Fire Department, Elkton Ambulance and Brookings Ambulance.

The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.
