Bulldogs down Sioux Valley

VOLGA – A rough start doomed the Cossacks in Wednesday’s home opener versus Madison.

Sioux Valley committed 11 errors as the Bulldogs built a 9-0 lead through 1 1/2 innings en route to a 14-3 win.

The Cossacks put together three straight hits in the bottom of the second to plate one run and then took advantage of five straight walks to plate two more in the fifth as they dropped to 0-6.

Carson Christopherson led off the second with a single and advanced to third on Kashas VanderWal’s base hit. Caleb Elijah’s RBI single scored Christopherson as Sioux Valley trailed 9-1 through two complete.

A one-out base on balls to Parker Puetz started the Cossacks in the fifth as Chase Ringeheimer, Tristan Richarz, Christopherson and VanderWal followed with walks to plate two runs and make it 12-3 after five.

Madison added a pair of runs in the top of the sixth to account for the final score.

Jackson Kooima suffered the loss after surrendering nine unearned runs in 1 2/3 innings on six hits and four walks with one strikeout on the mound. Elijah allowed three runs – one earned – on two hits and three walks with a K over an inning and a third while Jakob Ziegler went the final three frames. He gave up two unearned runs on a hit and two walks with two strikeouts.

Seth Thennis tossed four innings for the Bulldogs to earn the win. He allowed one earned run on four hits with four strikeouts.

Zach Whitlock gave up two earned runs on six walks with three strikeouts over 1 1/3 before Koby Christionsen struck out four over the final 1 2/3 innings.
