DES MOINES, Iowa – Drake defeated South Dakota State 1-0 in a nonconference women’s soccer match Friday night at Cownie Soccer Complex.
The Jackrabbits slipped to 2-3 on the season with their third consecutive loss despite outshooting the Bulldogs 17-7, including 7-4 on goal.
Leah Manuleleua paced both teams with five efforts. Marisa Schulz was close behind with four shots (including two on net), and Maya Hansen added three to round out the top SDSU threats.
Maggie Smither tallied three saves in the defeat, and 20 South Dakota State student-athletes saw the field.
Hannah bormann scored on an assist from Kelsie Stone in the 61st minute for Drake (1-4).
Stone stopped seven shots to earn the win in goal.
The Bulldogs’ Annie Schmitz and Delaney Goertzen both received first-half yellow cards.
South Dakota State returns home for a pair of matches, taking on Hawaii on Tuesday and Eastern Washington on Friday. Both contests begin at 6 p.m.
