BROOKINGS – The Bullets lost their final pool-play game, 13-6, to Lennox on Saturday night, and then fell 19-4 to Yankton on Sunday morning to finish the Buffalo Wild Wings 16U Tournament with a 0-3 mark.

Brookings plays host to Watertown on Tuesday at Bob Shelden Field in a doubleheader that starts at 5 p.m.

Saturday’s Game

• Lennox 13, Brookings 6

Lennox jumped out to an 11-0 lead after three innings before the Bullets got on the scoreboard with a four-run fifth inning.

But it was too little, too late as Lennox added a lone run in the bottom of the fifth and Brookings managed just two in the sixth.

Jeffrey Fuks took one for the team with one out in the fifth to start the Bullets’ rally before Kohji Numata followed with a single. With two outs, Jacob Vlaminck and Gabe Wounded Head sandwiched base hits around a Lennox error on a ball Cayden Jacobsma put into play before Kane Kurtenbach drove in another run on a fielder’s choice.

In the sixth, Carter Merritt led off with a single and stole second base. Tanner Huber walked before Fuks plated Merritt with a base hit that sent Huber to third. Koby Bartels ground out scored Huber for the Bullets’ sixth run.

Caden Wright suffered the loss after giving up six runs – five earned – on five hits and five walks over the first two innings. Bartels allowed two runs – one earned – on one hit and three walks in 2 1/3 frames, while Vlaminck tossed 1 1/3 and gave up one hit.

Sunday’s Game

• Yankton 19, Brookings 4

The Bullets batted around in the second inning to get on the scoreboard first, but couldn’t hold on when Yankton put up seven in the third, four in the fifth and eight in the sixth to end the game early via the run rule.

In the second, Huber got on with a leadoff walk before Fuks’ one-out ground moved Huber to second. Huber stole third and then scored on Numata’s two-out base hit. Wright followed with another single, and then, Numata stole third and ended up scoring on the play at third. After a walk to Bartels, Vlaminck stroke an RBI single to plate Wright as Brookings led 3-0 after two complete.

A one-out double by Kurtenbach set the table for Fuks’ RBI-triple in the third inning, but that would be the end of the scoring for the Bullets.

Kurtenbach was saddled with the loss after giving up seven earned runs on seven hits and two walks with one strikeout in three innings. Numata tossed two and allowed four runs – three earned – on three hits and three walks with a strikeout while Kolby Weinberg threw the sixth and gave up eight unearned runs on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
