Bullets fall to Brandon Valley


VALLEY SPRINGS – The Bullets’ season came to a close at the Class A 16U State Tournament with an 11-2 pool-play loss to host Brandon Valley on Saturday.

Brookings collected two of its four hits in the top of the first inning to plate two runs as Koby Bartels drew a lead off walk and advanced to second on Carter Merritt’s single.

Both runners moved up a base on Cayden Jacobsma’s ground out, and then, scored on Cole McElhany’s two-out single.

Brandon Valley scored twice in the bottom of the first to tie the game, and then, plated five runs in the third to take control.

The home team added two runs in both the fifth and sixth frames for the final margin.

Caden Wright suffered the loss after giving up seven runs – two earned – on two hits and five walks with one strikeout in 2 1/3 innings of work.

Tanner Huber threw the final 3 2/3 innings and allowed four runs on nine hits.

McElhany added another single and Matthew Girard contributed a base hit as the Bullets committed five errors in the contest.
