Bullets shut out in final game

SIOUX FALLS – The Bullets fell to Winner, 11-0, on Saturday to finish 0-2-1 at the Sioux Falls Tournament. On Friday, Brookings played Pierre to a 13-13 tie after falling, 5-2, to Sioux Falls West.

Brookings, 7-22-1, play host to Brandon Valley in a 5 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday at Bob Shelden Field.

Saturday’s Game

• Winner 11, Brookings 0

Winner jumped out to a quick lead with six runs in the first inning as the Bullets managed just seven hits in the five-inning affair.

Kohji Numata had two of the Bullets’ seven hits as Koby Bartels hit a double.

Carter Merritt, Jacob Vlaminck, Gabe Wounded Head and Caden Wright all had singles.

Bartels suffered the loss on the mound after giving up nine runs on 12 hits and two walks with four strikeouts over four innings.

Cayden Jacobsma gave up two runs – one earned – on two hits in the fifth.

Friday’s Games

• Brookings 13, Pierre 13

The Bullets scored three runs in the first and then scored five runs in both the third and sixth innings to build a 13-5 lead, but Pierre tallied eight runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 13-13, when it was called due to time limit.

Vlaminck had two hits and three RBIs while Jeffrey Fuks singled, doubled and drove in a pair of runs.

Wright added two hits and two RBIs; Jacobsma also had two hits and an RBI; and Merritt plated two runs with a double.

Tanner Huber gave up five runs – three earned – on eight hits and a walk with two strikeouts over five innings.

Numata allowed seven runs – two earned – on two hits and a walk while Jacobsma closed the sixth and gave up an earned run on one hit.

Despite holding a 10-8 edge in hits, the Bullets managed only two runs as they stranded eight runners.

Caden Wright had a single and double as Merritt, Vlaminck and Wounded Head had two hits apiece, with Merritt driving in one run.

Wright suffered the loss after giving up four runs – three earned – on seven hits and three walks with three strikeouts in five innings.

Kane Kurtenbach tossed the sixth and allowed one run on one hit and one walk with a strikeout.
