BROOKINGS – The Bullets split a doubleheader with Milbank on Thursday at Bob Shelden Field, dropping the opener 12-8 in eight innings and winning the nightcap 7-6 in five innings.

BROOKINGS – The Bullets split a doubleheader with Milbank on Thursday at Bob Shelden Field, dropping the opener 12-8 in eight innings and winning the nightcap 7-6 in five innings.

Brookings plays host to Watertown on Monday at 5 p.m.

Game 1

 Milbank 12, Brookings 8 (8 inn.)

The Bullets scored six consecutive runs to grab an 8-5 cushion; however, Milbank pulled even with three runs in the seventh and then put up a four-spot in the extra frame.

Brookings’ Carter Merritt reached base in four of his five plate appearances. He had an RBI single and scored three times. Wes Koenig was 3-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs.

Mason Bebensee struck out five batters in 6 2/3 innings on the mound.

Game 2

 Brookings 7, Milbank 6 (5 inn.)

The Bullets scored two runs in the third and one in the fourth to move ahead 7-4, and then held off Milbank.

Kolby Weinberg finished 2-for-2 with three runs.

Brookings drew 11 walks, including three by Cayden Jacobsma and two apiece from Merritt and Koenig – all three players scored once. Jeff Fuks walked and scored.

Aidan Stewart pitched three innings to earn the win and Weinberg tossed the final two to pick up the save.
